Art and Design...

FLYING SORCERY can assemble a team of experienced storyboarders, conceptual artists and pre-visualization animators to suit your project's needs...

All are among Hollywood's top talents, artists that have designed many of your favorite scenes, props and sets of the past 20 years.  Samples and resumes can be provided upon determining your project's requirements.  Below are examples of my work (David Duncan) from the past two decades...

Storyboards

Storyboards are still the quickest, most efficient way to get ideas in front of a number of people. Though they can be beautifully drawn images ready for the "Art of..." books, I prefer to work from the point of view that boards are a tool for production, not an end in themselves.

My experience as a 2nd unit director and illustrator has enabled me to design and quickly draw sequences that more resemble what can actually be shot and edited, rather than "dog and pony show" illustrations. An understanding of lens choices and production logistics helps me communicate with directors and DPs from a production point of view, helping them plan sequences more efficiently when time and budgets demand it.

Conceptual Illustrations

Conceptual art falls into two categories for me... very precise illustrations, often with my own plan and elevation views, from which props and sets could be built (both real world and CG), and quick sketches and paint-overs that can immediately communicate the basic ideas.  I'm particular adept at quickie VFX mock-ups, painting over location photos or enhancing existing objects, due to my background as a matte painter.  Concept art can also mean 3D models built in Maya, Lightwave or Sketchup...

Art Direction / Visual Design Consulting

A few recent examples of special venue and location-based entertainment projects on which I've served as Production Designer / Supervising Art Director...but also a few where I served either as VFX art director, lead concept designer, and/or visual design consultant...  Sometimes that line can blur, depending on the level of creative input and the amount of nuts and bolts department management...
